Exhibitions, Provincial (Landesausstellungen), cultural and historical 
events, usually combined with the restoration of important buildings. 
Forerunners were the exhibitions, "Der Kremser Schmidt" (painter of 
the Baroque period) (1951) and "Gotik in Niederoesterreich" (the 
Gothic period in Lower Austria) (1959) in Krems, Lower Austria; the 
first actual provincial exhibitions took place in Styria and Lower 
Austria in 1959 and 1960; most other provinces (Burgenland, Carinthia, 
Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tirol, Vorarlberg) copied the idea.
