Lang, Franz Innozenz, b. Marchegg (Lower Austria), Oct. 4, 1752, 
d. Vienna, April 10, 1835; Piarist, educator. Had great influence on 
the development of secondary education in Austria as a member of the 
Court Commission for Educational Reform (1795-1802), supreme inspector 
of Austrian secondary schools east of the River Enns and charged with 
secondary school affairs in the Educational Court Commission 
(1808-1830) - introduced subject teaching by specialized instructors; 
extended secondary school instruction to 6 years, extended the 
syllabus by introducing general subjects, esp. natural sciences; 
establishment of libraries for teachers.
