Laterns, Vorarlberg, municipality in the district of Feldkirch, alt. 
921 m, pop. 729 (in 1981: 608), area 43.79 km%%sup 2/%, 
small tourist resort (47,372 overnight stays) in the Laterns valley, 
Oberland region. - Sports hostel for young people, conservation area 
on the Furkajoch saddle (1759 m); wood processing. - New Gothic 
parish church St. Nikolaus with Gothic choir in Thal, consecrated in 
1502, Baroque alterations in 1673, late Gothic stained-glass windows 
(1507), baptismal font and tabernacle (1509); some farms of the Walser 
people with Paarhoefe dating from the 17%%sup th/%  and 18%%sup th/%  
centuries; in the vicinity, Ueble Schlucht gorge.
