412 m, pop. 7,555 (1981: 6,440), area 11.91 km%%sup 2/%,
south of Bregenz. - Vehicle testing authority, library. Schools: upper
level mathematics-oriented secondary school
(Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium), school of domestic science. Water
works. Dynamic economic structure with 2,810 people employed (1991)
and several companies, above all in industry (beverage industry,
curtain production, packaging material production, construction
equipment production, wood processing); trade (furniture, meat
whole-sale trade), construction industry, forwarding agents. -
Situated on an antique Roman road; first documentary mention in 853 as
"Villa Lutaraha", part of Austria since 1451; parish church of St.
Georg (1878/79), neo-Romanesque monastery church of the Redemptorists
(1885); "Einhof" and "Paarhof" farmsteads with shingle roofs.
