Lech, Vorarlberg, municipality in the district of Bregenz, alt. 
1,444 m, pop. 1,234, area 90 km%%sup 2/%, along with Zuers 
exclusive international skiing resort (1,012,808 overnight stays), 
situated on the upper River Lech on the mouth of Zuersbach stream. - 
Cable railways to the Ruefikopf mountain (2,362 m) and to 
Oberlech (1,669 m), Mohnenfluhbahn, an aerial cableway, to the 
Zuger Hochlicht mountain (2371 m). - Settlement of the Walser 
people around 1300, first documentary mention in 1351 "Taeniberc", 
became part of Austria in 1453; its parish church with Gothic choir 
and tower (around 1390, Baroque onion-shaped roof) is a landmark, 
frescoes inside the church (1400-1450), Baroque nave (1603) with 
frescoes (1791); new parish church (1974-1976); Baroque St. Sebastian 
church in Zug; chapels from the 17%%sup th/%  and 18%%sup th/%  
centuries; former Tannberger court house; Tannberg bridge (1665; 
extended in 1941); old farm houses in Walser style, "Einhof" and 
"Paarhof" buildings with shingle facing, console frieze and panelled 
rooms.
