Teachers, Further Training of: Since the 19%%sup th/%  century, 
further training for teachers has been supported by means of 
professional magazines, improvement of teachers´ libraries, 
summer courses and scholarships. The Paedagogium, a further training 
institution, was founded in Vienna in 1868, followed by the 
Pedagogical Institute of the City of Vienna founded in 1923; in Lower 
Austria a teachers´ academy was founded in 1905. After 1945 
further training of teachers mostly took the form of seminars; 
following the adoption of the  School Legislation of 1962, pedagogical 
and  Berufspaedagogische Institute on the level of academies were 
founded in all Austrian provinces and were merged in 1983.
