First association in Austria in 1896, participation of women since 1913. Internationally successful Austrian athletes included, H. Bauma, A. Berger (European indoor champion 60-m-running, 1989), I. Gusenbauer, E. Janko, S. Kirchmann, D. Millonig and Liese Prokop.
