Track and Field Sports: Running, throwing, jumping and pushing were 
already practised by gymnastics associations and regulated according 
to the English model in the 1880s. First association in Austria in 
1896, participation of women since 1913. Internationally successful 
Austrian athletes included, H.  Bauma, A. Berger (European indoor 
champion 60-m-running, 1989), I.  Gusenbauer, E.  Janko, S.  
Kirchmann, D.  Millonig and Liese  Prokop. The Austrian athletics 
association was founded in 1900 and comprises (1993) 312 associations 
with 25,898 members.
