!!!Leonhard von Keutschach
b. Viktring (?; municipality of Klagenfurt, Carinthia), around 1442,
d. Salzburg, June 8, 1519, ecclesiastical dignitary. Canon and provost
of Eberndorf Abbey in Jauntal, 1490 provost, 1495 Archbishop of
Salzburg. Secularized the chapter, dedicated his work to the economic
improvement of the archdiocese; gold and silver mining industry
thrived under him in the villages of Gastein and Rauris, and the salt
industry prospered. Policy of ruthless nepotism; in 1498 exiled the
Jews and had all synagogues in Salzburg and Hallein destroyed. 1511
broke the civilian resistance movement but lost influence in the
Habsburg lands. Had Hohensalzburg Castle enlarged, had a barrel-organ
built (Salzburger Stier) and renovated the ancient Roman road across
the Radstaedter Tauern in the Alps.
