!!!Leopold I. Liutpold, Babenberger-Markgraf

Leopold I (Liutpold), 
d. Wuerzburg (Germany), July 10, 994, Babenberg Margrave; father of  
Heinrich I and  Adalbert (the Victorious). 962/963 a vassal of Emperor 
Otto I with the title of Count in Donaugau in Bavaria. On July 22, 
976, after the uprising led by the Bavarian Duke Heinrich II, given 
the title of Margrave by Otto II; 996 first documented mention of the 
mark bestowed on him being named  Ostarrîchi. L. enlarged it 
beyond the Vienna Woods. His main residence was Melk castle, which he 
had taken from Count Sizo and where he founded a monastery.
