b. Graz (Styria), July 7, 1896, 
d. Innsbruck (Tyrol), Feb. 28, 1981, classical philologist, married to 
Erna  Lesky, 1936 professor at the University of Innsbruck, from 1949 
in Vienna, 1963/64 Rector of the University of Vienna, 1969-1970 
President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, made a considerable 
contribution to the conservation of humanist grammar schools. 
Specialized in Greek tragedy and the connections between drama and 
myth.
