!!!Lessing, Erich

b. Vienna, July 13, 1923, photographer. Emigrated to Palestine in 
1939, reporter in the British army, returned 1947, worked for the news 
agency Associated Press and for magazines (Magnum, Life). Documented 
especially the period of Austria's reconstruction after World War II 
and around the time of the 1955 Austrian state treaty as well as the 
Hungarian revolution of 1956; his work also focussed on the art of the 
ancient world, the Orient and artistic original documents. Awarded the 
Grand Austrian State Prize in 1997.
