Leutschach, Styria, market town in the district of Leibnitz, alt.
351 m, pop. 540, area 1.11 km%%sup 2/%, farming and
wine-growing region along the "Suedsteirische Weinstrasse"
(south-Styrian wine street), near the Slovenian border. - Operational
base of the alpine rescue and conservation service; winery, some
tourism during the summer. - Originally Gothic parish church,
renovated 1908-1911; well-preserved market square from the
16%%sup th/% /17%%sup th/% centuries, 2 Roman lions (former tomb
guards). In the vicinity, (municipality of Schlossberg) Trautenburg
Palace (documented mention in 1243, renovated in 1662) with parks
(19%%sup th/% century) and Schmirnberg Castle.
