Liechtenstein Castle, Lower Austria, district of Moedling, castle 
visible over a long distance on hill at the eastern border of the 
Vienna Woods. Of the Romanesque building (documented mention 
12%%sup th/%  century) some parts from the 12%%sup th/%  century still 
extant, ruin until 1808, rebuilt in Romantic style under Prince 
Johann I of Liechtenstein, 1873 restored. Chapel from the 
2%%sup nd/%  half of the 12%%sup th/%  century, 1820-1822 enlarged in 
classicist style, 1945 severely damaged. Palace built in 1820 by 
Joseph Engel. Castle and palace are surrounded by a large park, which 
encloses the area of Moedling; many artificial ruins.
