!!!Liesganig, Joseph

b. Graz (Styria), Feb. 13, 1719, 
d. Lvív, Ukraine (then Lemberg), March 4, 1799, mathematician, 
geographer and geodesist. 1756-1773 prefect of the observatory of the 
Vienna Jesuits, 1759 commissioned to measure the Vienna meridian based 
on the Wiener Neustadt reference line, the end-points of which were 
marked by stone monuments. The first basic measurement was in 1762, 
the second in 1763, its base line was the Marchfeld basis, situated 
between the villages of Seyring and Glinzendorf. Later measurements in 
Hungary (1769), Galicia and Lodomeria (1772-1774); from 1785 headed 
the work on the Josephinian cadaster in Galicia.
