b. Prassberg (Mozirje, Slovenia), Jan. 19, 1816, 
d. Idria (Idrija, Slovenia), April 22, 1883, mining expert and 
geologist. Worked at the Geologische Reichsanstalt from 1849, in 1867 
appointed director of the mercury mine at Idria, which flourished 
under his management. Participated in the first geological survey of 
the Alps.
