b. Vienna, Aug. 2, 1829, 
d. Vienna, March 25, 1917. Manufacturer of decorative of glassware. 
Took over his father's company with his brother in 1855 (founded in 
1823). Josef acted as commercial director, Ludwig was responsible for 
artistic realisation. L. improved coloured crystal glass and decorated 
the glass with elaborate pattern and shape cuts. His vases, bowls, 
lamps etc. were exhibited at numerous world exhibitions, greatly 
contributed to the modernisation of glass art and to the world-wide 
recognition of Vienna as a centre of good taste. L. was the first 
bourgeois industrialist to be made a member of the Upper Chamber of 
the Reichsrat.
