!!!Loiblpass

Loibl Pass, Carinthia, alt. 1,367 m, border pass between Austria 
(Carinthia) and Slovenia, in the eastern Karawanken mountains. The 
pass road is the shortest connection between Klagenfurt and Laibach 
(Ljubljana). In 1615 a foot-path laid out in the 16%%sup th/%  century 
was widened into a road and improved under Karl VI. At the pass, 
2 obelisks recall the road construction of 1728. Today there is a 
Loibl Pass tunnel (alt. 1,068 m, Carinthia) with a total length 
of 1,570 m (Austrian section 899 m), completed in 1991.
