!!!Lorenz, Adolf

b. Vidnava, Czech Republic (then Weidenau), April 21, 1854, 
d. Altenberg (Lower Austria), Feb. 12, 1946, physician, founded modern 
orthopedics. Father of Albert  Lorenz and Konrad  Lorenz. 1889 to 1924 
Director of the Orthopedic University Hospital Department in Vienna. 
He created the principle of "modelling redressment" ("modellierendes 
Redressement", molding of the defective form) for the cure of talipes 
contortus (clubfoot). For the correction of curved tubular bones he 
invented a non - invasive technique based on refracturing the 
defective bone. He became world famous for his non-invasive correction 
of congenital dislocation of the hip. After retirement he worked in 
the USA. Was awarded the Billroth Prize and the Goethe Medal.
