Losenstein, Upper Austria, municipality in the district of Steyr-Land, 
alt. 348 m, pop. 1,747, area 19.42 km%%sup 2/%, in the 
Ennstal valley, south of Steyr. - Run-of-river power station 
Losenstein (built in 1962, 38 MW); production of hydraulic 
equipment, wood processing, factory for silicone and rubber parts, 
chemical-technical production, summer tourism (26,299 over-night 
stays). - Ruins of Losenstein castle (documented mention in 1186, 
since the end of 15%%sup th/%  century in ruins) with Romanesque 
donjon; parish church of St. Blasius, Gothic core with frescoes 
(around 1380) and Gothic stained glass windows (around 1400); Baroque 
interior with altar panel by C. v. Reslfeld (1691/92); museum of 
local history and culture (former nailery).
