b. Persenbeug (Lower Austria), Jan. 9, 1883, 
d. Brunn an der Pitten (Lower Austria), Dec. 26, 1967, journalist, 
politician (Christian-Socialist; OeVP, Austrian People's Party), 
diplomat. From 1910 in the "Literary Office" of the Ministry of 
Foreign Affairs, created after 1918 the National Press Service (1921 
to 1936 Head of the Federal Press Service), 1936 to 1938 Member of the 
State Council, President of the Austrian Press Chamber of the Society 
for Newspaper Studies as well as of the College of Press and Politics. 
1938 in a concentration camp, 1945 to 1953 member of the Nationalrat, 
from 1949 delegate of the Austrian Parliament, from 1953 delegate of 
the National Government to the Council of Europe and Chairman of the 
Austrian Parliamentary Council of the European Movement. 1946 to 1958 
Head of the Institute for Newspaper Studies at the University of 
Vienna, founder and chairman of the "Verband der geistig Schaffenden 
Oesterreichs" (Austrian Association of Intellectual Workers).
