!!!Lurnfeld, Beckenlandschaft
Lurnfeld Basin, Carinthia, about 5 km wide basin region where the
River Moell flows into the River Drau/Drava, south of Sachsenburg to
the mouth of the River Lieser. Name from the mediaeval county of Lurn
(Teurnia), which comprised almost the entire area of Upper Carinthia
and East Tirol. Old, well developed settlement area (Roman excavations
in Teurnia). Significant difference between densely populated sunny
side (north slope) and wooded shady side (south of the river Drau). On
the northern slope, Hohenburg Castle ruin; main town: Spittal
an der Drau.
