Muehl, Rivers, Grosse and Kleine, Upper Austria, 2 northern 
tributaries of the  Danube, River; the Muehlviertel region is named 
after them. The source of the Grosse Muehl is near the border to 
Bavaria, is 54 km long; it flows along the southern foot of the 
Bohemian Forest and passes Aigen im Muehlkreis (600 m), 
Haslach an der Muehl (530 m), where the Steinerne 
Muehl empties, and flows into the Danube near Untermuehl (288 m). 
At the Teufelmuehle control station the Grosse Muehl (upper part) 
has an average rate of flow of 8.8 m%%sup 3/%/second; good water 
quality (class 1-2). Partenstein/Kleinzell power station (34 MW) 
is situated just above the mouth of the Grosse Muehl. The Kleine 
Muehl, 32 km long, rises near Ulrichsberg (626 m), flows 
west of the Grosse M. in south direction (place Peilstein im 
Muehlviertel, 584 m) and discharges near Obermuehl an der 
Donau (average rate of flow: 3.6 m%%sup 3/%/seconds).
