b. Neuilly (France), March 6, 1930, conductor, violinist and composer. 
Educated in the USA, since the 1960s international engagements (e.g. 
London, Bayreuth, Vienna, Paris, New York, Berlin), concerts with all 
the leading orchestras of the world; 1982 to 1984 artistic director of 
the Vienna  State Opera. 1994 and 1996 conducted the New Year's 
Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic; 1995 and 1996 conducted the 
opening performance of the Salzburg Festival.
