Maculan, Alexander, b. Vienna, July 8, 1941, building 
contractor, son of Rudolf  Maculan. Took over his father's company 
Hofman & M. at the end of the 1980s, which became part of the publicly 
listed group  Maculan Holding AG in 1990. After strong international 
expansion and growth (turnover 16 billion ATS and a staff of almost 
9000 in 1995) the companies of the M. group had to file a petition in 
bankruptcy and equalization in 1996; M. has been attempting to 
restructure M. Holding AG since 1997.
