b. Pola (then Italy, now Pula, Croatia), July 10, 1912,
d. Anger-Stoissberg (Germany, air accident), Dec. 20, 1955,
construction engineer and building contractor, father of Alexander
(see) Maculan. 1930-34 studied at the University of Technology in
Vienna, until 1936 teaching assistant at the same institution. From
1936 employed in the Hofman building company, partner from 1938
("Hofman & Maculan"), manager from 1941 to 1955; under his management
the small building firm became one of Austria's leading companies in
the field of construction, and later formed part of the (see)
Maculan Holding AG R. Maculan's achieved great strides in streamlining
construction methods, the use of concrete (prefabs, fair-faced
concrete; founded the Ebensee concrete factory), computation of
building parameters and standardisation.
