!!!Magnesit

Magnesite, magnesium carbonate, MgCO%%sup 3/%, mineral mined and 
processed in Austria since about 1875. Nowadays used for the 
production of sintered magnesite, magnesite blocks, caustic magnesite 
and refractory materials. Powdered caustic magnesite is used for the 
production of heat and noise insulating materials. Magnesite 
underground mining at Breitenau am Hochlantsch (Styria), Wald am 
Schoberpass (Styria) and Radenthein (Carinthia). Open-cast mining in 
Fieberbrunn (Tyrol) and Oberdorf/Laming (Styria, underground and 
open-cast mining). Processing at Breitenau am Hochlantsch, Veitsch, 
Oberdorf/Laming and Trieben (all in Styria), Radenthein (Carinthia), 
Ferndorf (Carinthia, Heraklith fibre cement production) and Hochfilzen 
(Tyrol,  RHI AG). Mining output in 1997: about 630,000 tons of 
crude magnesite.
