!!!Maier, Hermann

b. Flachau, Salzburg, Dec. 7, 1972, skier. Won two gold medals (giant 
slalom, super-G) at the 1998 Olympic Games at Nagano, Japan, and in 
1997/1998 was the second Austrian, after K.  Schranz, to win the World 
Cup in alpine skiing. Downhill and super-G world champion at the 
Skiing World Championships in Colorado, USA. Overall World Cup winner 
again in 1999/2000 and in 2000/2001, winning the downhill, giant 
slalom and super-G World Cup events both years (in 1999/2000 M. scored 
exactly 2000 points, the highest score ever achieved in ski racing up 
to that time). At the world championships in 2001 in St. Anton he won 
the silver medal in downhill and the bronze in super-G.
