Maishofen, province of Salzburg, municipality in the district of Zell 
am See, alt. 768 m, pop. 2,543, area 29.53 km%%sup 2/%, 
Maishofen is a nucleated village with various small settlements which 
is situated in the Saalach valley to the north of Lake Zellersee. - 
Gravel, sand and concrete works, dairy (cheesery), Austrian 
Association of Horse Breeders for warm-blooded horses, Haflinger and 
Noriker breeds, Salzburg Association of Cattle Breeders, centre for 
livestock auctions. - Sights: parish church (1863) with a high altar 
dated 1713; reconstruction of the nave 1990-1993 (old spire 
preserved), Stiegerschloessl Castle in Late Gothic style (renovated in 
1839), the Palace of Kammer, enlarged in 1466, restored in 1812, Late 
Gothic entrance, now a restaurant; Saalhof Palace (first documented 
mention in 1423); unaltered since 1606, it provides an excellent 
example of a typical Salzburg manor house; Schloss Prielau Castle 
(around 1560).
