b. Lucca (Italy), June 12, 1775, 
d. Vienna, Sept. 12, 1859, physician-in-ordinary to Archduchess Maria 
Beatrix of Este, also treated the Duke of  Reichstadt and L. van  
Beethoven. 1802 founded the Vienna Society of General Practitioners ( 
from 1837 onwards "Vienna Medical Association"); M. was its first 
president.
