Marchet, Gustav, b. Baden (Lower Austria), May 29, 1846, 
d. Ostrov, Czech Republic (then Schlackenwerth), April 27, 1916, 
Professor for Law and Administration; politician. From 1869 at the 
School for Forestry in  Mariabrunn, from 1872 Professor at the 
University of Forestry and Agriculture in Vienna (Rector). 1891 to 
1997 and 1901 to 1907 member of the Reichsrat (party: "Deutsche 
Fortschrittspartei", liberal). As head of the Ministry of Education 
(1906 to 1908) he introduced the school type  Realgymnasium 
(modern-language grammar school) as equal to Latin Grammar Schools and 
eased requirements for the final examinations  Reifepruefung and  
School Performance Assessment. Valuable contributions to agricultural 
law and social policy (e.g. old age and disablement insurance). From 
1872 onwards maintained contact with F. W. Raiffeisen and 
advocated the latter's ideas ( agricultural co-operatives).
