!!!Maria Elend

Maria Elend,Carinthia, village in the district of Villach Land, alt. 
509 m, place of pilgrimage situated in the Rosen Valley 
south-east of the Feistritz reservoir; cadastral district of the 
municipality of St. Jakob im Rosental. - Late Gothic church with three 
naves of equal height (first documented mention in 1478), some parts 
adapted in Baroque style, Baroque high altar with a Gothic statue of 
the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus (mid-15%%sup th/%  century). In 
the south nave is a winged altar (around 1515) richly ornamented with 
statues and paintings; pulpit (1745). In the vestry are Gothic statues 
from St. Oswald; church bell dating from 1697. In the woods to the 
south of Maria Elend, a Lady Chapel (1750) with frescoes 
depicting the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus.
