Maria Lankowitz, Styria, market town in the district of Voitsberg, 
alt. 525 m, pop. 2,515, area 23.61 km%%sup 2/% Situated west 
of the town of Koeflach, Maria Lankowitz is both a well-known place of 
pilgrimage and a popular destination for day trippers. - Workshops for 
handicapped persons, Hirschegg Recreation Home, recreational 
facilities, Piberstein Recreation Area, extensive sports grounds, golf 
course, secondary school for rural home economics. - Pilgrimage church 
(first church building erected in 1446, rebuilt between 1678 and 
1681), nearby Franciscan monastery (founded in 1455, abolished in 
1785), splendid high altar (1712-1714), monastery buildings 
(1656-1665), Chapel of St. Anthony (1660-1661); Maria Lankowitz Palace 
(construction started in 1440, alterations were added during the 
16%%sup th/%  and 17%%sup th/%  centuries).
