Maria Rain, Carinthia, municipality in the district of Klagenfurt 
Land, alt. 552 m, pop. 1,758, area 25.48 km%%sup 2/%, place 
of pilgrimage and popular destination for day trippers south of the 
town of Klagenfurt, situated above the Ferlach reservoir.- Timber 
processing, publishing company. Baroque parish and pilgrimage church 
(rebuilt between 1700 and 1729) situated high above the River 
Drau/Drava, two church towers with onion helms, large 17%%sup th/%  
century fresco of St. Christopher painted on the north walls of the 
church, high altar (1694) with a Gothic statue of the Virgin 
(mid-15%%sup th/%  century), retable of a Roman tomb altar used as an 
offertory box, various chapels (Tomb-of-Mary chapel, St. Joseph 
chapel, Flagellation chapel (Rosalienkapelle), Holy Sepulchre chapel). 
Filial church at the village of Unterguntschach, 14%%sup th/%  century 
murals.
