b. Vienna, May 3, 1895, d. Austin (USA), April 6, 1992, chemist. 
1932 to 1938 Professor at the University of Vienna, emigrated to the 
USA in 1938. Founded the "Polymer Institute" in New York and invented 
polymerization (combination of similar molecules into polymers), thus 
creating the preconditions for the production of synthetic materials 
(e.g. PVC).
