!!!Maschinenkomödie

Maschinenkomoedie, one genre of the  Volkstheater popular in Vienna 
during the 18%%sup th/%  century. Refined version of the 
"Bernadoniade" (improvised "magic" burlesque containing elements of 
the Baroque opera, as well as pantomime and musical interludes) named 
after the well-known impromptu actor, J. F.  Kurz(Bernardon). The 
helplessness displayed by presumptuous individuals in the face of 
irrational powers accounts for the comic aspect of these plays.
