!!!Maschinenkomödie
Maschinenkomoedie, one genre of the Volkstheater popular in Vienna
during the 18%%sup th/% century. Refined version of the
"Bernadoniade" (improvised "magic" burlesque containing elements of
the Baroque opera, as well as pantomime and musical interludes) named
after the well-known impromptu actor, J. F. Kurz(Bernardon). The
helplessness displayed by presumptuous individuals in the face of
irrational powers accounts for the comic aspect of these plays.
