Mayer, Franz Martin, b. Plan (Plána, Czech Republic), Feb. 20, 1844, 
d. Graz (Styria), Sept. 15, 1914, historian. Secondary-school teacher, 
from 1875 ''privatdozent ''at the University of Graz. Outstanding 
scholar of the history of the provinces of Salzburg and Styria, also 
know for the promotion of the knowledge of history  in Austrian 
secondary schools (history textbooks).
