Sohn von [Franz Freiherr Mayr von Melnhof|AEIOU/Mayr_von_Melnhof,_Franz_der_Ältere,_Freiherr] dem Älteren. Förderte Braunkohle im Tollinggraben und gründete 1888 die Holzstoff- und Pappefabrik in Wannersdorf bei Frohnleiten. Ausschließlicher Lieferant der k. k. Tabakregie. Die Fabrik besteht bis heute ([Mayr-Melnhof Karton AG|AEIOU/Mayr-Melnhof_Karton_AG]).
