b. Vienna, Sept. 14, 1883, 
d. Berlin (Germany), Jan. 3, 1958, electrical engineer. In 1913 
at Telefunken in Berlin and independently of O.  Nussbaumer and S.  
Strauss invented a feedback amplifier valve for the generation of 
undamped oscillations, one of the basic elements of wireless 
communication engineering, and introduced heterodyne reception.
