b. Medias, Romania, March 23, 1778, 
d. Neuwaldegg/Vienna, July 9, 1864, inventor, analytical chemist and 
pharmacist. From 1816 to 1845 Professor at the Vienna Polytechnical 
Institute; invented a hot-air central heating system which was named 
after him, experimented with heating systems for steamships and 
railway carriages and developed a fuel-saving cooking range which was 
known as "Wiener Sparherd.
