Melan, Ernst, b. Bruenn (now Brno, Czech Republic), Nov. 16, 1890, 
d. Vienna, Dec. 10, 1963, construction engineer. Son of Josef   (see) 
Melan. Worked for Waagner-Biró AG, from 1923 Professor at 
Prague University, 1925-62 at Vienna University of Technology. Focused 
on statics, elasticity and plasticity theory and in particular the 
application of mathematical methods to these fields of study. Also 
engaged in many practical engineering projects in the field of steel 
and timber construction engineering.
