d. Munich,Germany. April 9, 1976 , conductor, composer, also wrote 
widely about music. From 1926 conductor for Deutsche 
Grammophon-Gesellschaft, 1946-49 head of the Classical Music 
department of Rot-Weiss-Rot radio. From 1950 published polemical 
writings condemning modern music, which greatly damaged his 
reputation.
