!!!Merz, Carl eigentlich C. Czell

b. Brasov, Rumania (then Kronstadt), Jan. 30, 1906, 
d. Vienna, Oct. 30, 1979 (suicide), writer and revue artist. Came 
to Vienna in 1924, actor and compère. 1932-1935 one of the 
leading initiators of Vienna cabaret (among others in "Literatur am 
Naschmarkt"  Kabarett); 1945-1947 in "Lieber  Augustin" (1946/47 
manager). Together with G.  Bronner, M.  Kehlmann, K. Nachmann, H.  
Qualtinger, P.  Wehle wrote numerous programmes for cabarets and the 
"Travnicek" dialogues; scriptwriter, radio and TV productions.
