b. Schwaz (Tyrol), Feb. 16, 1891, 
d. Vienna, Feb. 12, 1984, moral philosopher and sociologist, 
representative of Christian sociology. Brother of Josef  Messner; 
studied theology and law, professor at the University of Vienna, 
editor of the journal "Das neue Reich" (1918-1932) and the 
"Monatsschrift fuer Kultur und Politik" (1936-1938). Critic of the 
Austrian corporate state 1934-1938, wrote numerous articles containing 
social criticism of capitalism and socialism.
