Mischel, Walter, b. Vienna, Feb. 22, 1930, psychologist. 
Emigrated to the USA in 1940; 1958-1983 professor of psychology at 
Stanford University, Harvard University and the University of 
Colorado; since 1984 Niven Professor of Humane Letters at Columbia 
University, New York, where he was Chairman of the Department of 
Psychology in the years 1988-1991. Published basic works on the 
psychology of personality; is working on a socio-cognitive theory of 
the structure and dynamics of personality. Recognised as one of the 
most outstanding diagnosticians worldwide; publisher of the 
"Psychological Review".
