b.  Lemberg (now Lvív, Ukraine), April 19, 1883, 
d. Boston (USA), July 14, 1953, mathematician, brother of Ludwig 
von  Mises. Taught at the universities of Strasbourg, Dresden, Berlin 
and Istanbul and from 1939 at Harvard University; focused in 
particular on fluid mechanics, especially as applied to aircraft 
construction; founded the journal "Zeitschrift fuer Angewandte 
Mathematik und Mechanik".
