d. Vienna, March 22, 1935, actor. Discovered for the stage in
1898 by J. Kainz; 1898-1901 at the Burgtheater, 1901-1903 at the
Neues Deutsches Theater in Prague, 1904 with M. Reinhardt in Berlin.
Frequent performances in Vienna and at the Salzburg Festival (1920
first "Jedermann" - Everyman). One of the greatest German-speaking
actors during the period between the two World Wars, particularly
impressive performance of troubled characters in dramas by W.
Shakespeare, G. Buechner, H. Ibsen, L. Tolstoy, etc.
