social sciences and economics at Linz. From 1987 in the office of the 
Minister of Agriculture; 1989-93 director of the Austrian Farmers' 
Association; 1993-94 Secretary-General of the People's Party (OeVP). 
Member of the ''Nationalrat ''1990-94, 1996 and 1999-2000; 1994-2000 
Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, since 2000 Federal 
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management.
