Molzbichl, Carinthia, village in the district of Spittal an der Drau,
alt. 532 m, in the Unterdrautal valley, near Lake Millstatt,
cadastral district of the municipality of Spittal an der Drau. -
Parish church of St. Tiburtius (first documented mention around
1063) with Romanesque apse, archaeological evidence of an abbey,
8%%sup th/% to 10%%sup th/% centuries, fragments of Carolingian
wattlework; nave restored in 1801. Two-stored altar with figural
ornamentation; an inscription on plague in the mensa of the high altar
gives 532 as the date of death and burial of a deacon called Nonnosus,
only inscription in Austria from that time, today part of the new
altar facing the congregation. Church and cemetery surrounded by a
defensive wall. Finds exhibited in the Museum Carantana.
