!!!Montfort, Adelsgeschlecht
Montfort, noble family named after their ancestral seat at Goetzis
(Vorarlberg); founded by Hugo von M. (d. 1235), a son of Hugo von
Tuebingen (d. 1182), who had founded the town of Feldkirch. In 1258
the family split into the lines of M.-Feldkirch (until 1390),
M.-Bregenz (until 1338) and M.-Tettnang-Bregenz (until 1536); a
younger Tettnang branch died out in 1787. The huge family property
fell to the Habsburgs, their red standard became the coat of arms of
Vorarlberg.
