!!!Morton, Friedrich

b. Gorizia, Italy (then Goerz), Nov. 1, 1890, 
d. Hallstatt (Upper Austria), July 10, 1969, spelaeologist and 
author of travel books. Financed and founded the Botanical Station in 
Hallstatt and was director of the Hallstatt Museum from 1925. Under 
his direction a major burial site of the Hallstatt culture was 
unearthed in 1937-1940. Headed the exploration of the Dachstein caves.
